Setting up the R3 Sound Editor

February 28, 2015 -- 1 minute & 41 second read

For those that don't know, the R3 is a wicked synth. I got mine around 2010 and don't play it nearly as often as I should. When I do, I have a lot of fun. What's even more fun is hooking it up to your computer via USB. This simple process allows you to use software to manage your patches. You can download patches that other people have made and uploaded to the Interneters. And you can optionally tweak all the keyboard settings with the GUI instead of the keyboard itself. I still use the knobs on the keyboard because of muscle memory and the need to tweak while playing.

  1. First, download the driver and software.
  2. Optionally download the patches from other Korg keyboards. They are worth it in my opinion because they give a good foundationto build from. I need that as a beginner.
  3. Install everything and open the editor.
  4. Go to preferences and set these values:
    • MIDI IN: R3 - KBD/KNOB
    • MIDI OUT: R3 - SOUND

That's it! Now go play some music :D
